Enrichment

First Federation Trust Enrichment Offer

If a child spends their educational primary journey in one of our schools, they will have the opportunity to experience events outside of their time in the classroom. We believe in providing wider opportunities for the children in our care that complement their educational experiences.

During their time in school our children will have the opportunity to -

  • Perform in a setting outside of the school building

  • Participate in a musical performance

  • Participate in an art exhibition

  • Watch a musical/drama production performed by professionals

  • Participate in a sporting event held outside of the school premises

  • Perform in the local community to support an event or facility e.g. care home

  • Learn a musical instrument

  • Participate in inter-school sports events (FFT and local schools)

Each school will also have its individual offer that will be appropriate for the context and geography of the school. Schools will provide enrichment times where the children will have the opportunity to work outside of the usual classroom curriculum.

We are happy to signpost children to local clubs, facilities etc if they are showing a particular interest or skill in the field of sport, art and music.

Thorncombe St Mary's Primary Academy Enrichment Offer

At Thorncombe St Mary’s Primary Academy, we believe education goes beyond the classroom. Alongside the National Curriculum, we provide a rich and varied Enrichment Offer designed to inspire curiosity, develop talents, and give every child memorable experiences that will stay with them for life.

Our enrichment opportunities are rooted in our vision of living, learning and growing together. They encourage children to be ready, respectful and safe in everything they do, while reflecting our core Christian values of love and compassion, thankfulness, service, hope, forgiveness, and endurance.

During their time with us, children will have the opportunity to:

  • Enjoy Forest School sessions every Friday with our specialist Forest School leader, learning outdoor skills and developing teamwork and resilience.

  • Take part in specialist computing and PE lessons led by external experts across the year.

  • Experience our annual Culture Dance Workshop Day, exploring different styles of dance from around the world.

  • Join in with our exciting Activities Week, which may include: an inflatable assault course, pizza making in our outdoor stone oven, a whole-school sports tournament, a sleepover on the school field, trips to places like Dorset Waterpark and the Mud Trail, and even rock climbing.

  • Visit a local beach each year, learning about our local environment and coastlines.

  • Take part in church visits throughout the year, including special journeys through Christmas and Easter alongside members of our local community.

  • Share books in weekly reading sessions with volunteers from the local community.

  • Get involved in democracy by taking part in Democracy Day, where children vote to elect school ambassadors such as librarians, worship monitors, eco councillors, ethos councillors, and mental health ambassadors.

  • Meet inspiring visitors, including police officers, firefighters (and their fire engine!), farmers, nurses, doctors, vets, and our local Thorncombe First Responders, learning more about people who help us.

  • Showcase creativity in our annual Art Exhibition, celebrating children’s artwork across the school.

  • Take part in whole-school events such as Mental Health Awareness Day, Black History Month, Children in Need, Sports Day, Poetry Week, World Book Day, and our Times Table Rock Stars Tournament across the Trust.

Through this wide range of experiences, every child at Thorncombe St Mary’s is supported to live, learn and grow together, becoming confident, compassionate individuals ready to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world.
